American Magnetics, Inc. (AMI) was founded in 1968 by former employees of the Fusion
Energy Division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Since then, AMI has grown to become
a leading supplier of superconducting magnet systems and cryogenic accessories. AMI
services leading university, government, and industrial laboratories throughout the world.
Approximately fifty percent of all systems produced by AMI have been custom designed.
The following is a sample of applications for which AMI has supplied custom systems:
- Mineral Beneficiation
- Gyrotron Traveling Wave Tubes
- Whole Body MRI Scanners
- MHD Experiments
- Bubble Chambers
- Particle Accelerator Focusing System
- Superconducting Motors
- Nuclear Physics Experiments
- Plasma Physics
- Materials Analysis
- Energy Storage
AMI has a proven track record of delivering innovative, high-quality products and
service. AMI's achievements include:
designs and
manufactures superconducting magnets for more applications than any other U.S.
manufacturer.
equipment is used by
physicists and scientists to make significant advances in such areas as low temperature
physics, superconducting materials, and fusion energy.
is a pioneer in
cryogenic instrumentation and superconducting magnet control systems.
is a leading supplier
of superconducting helium level sensors and instruments.
vapor-cooled current
leads are accepted as an industry standard for introducing high currents into cryogenic
devices.
is one of the first
domestic superconducting magnet manufacturers to build a whole-body magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI) magnet.
AMI's products are sold in the United States through the main office in Oak Ridge,
Tennessee. Sales Representatives are used in many foreign
countries to provide our global customer base with easy access to sales and service of all
AMI products. Please refer to the AMI Website for the current listing of AMI representatives world-wide.
